When can I renew my license?
Renewals begin around the beginning of September in odd-numbered years.
How do I renew my license?
You renew your license through the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy (ASBRT) online renewal system, linked below.
How much continuing education does Alabama require?
12 hours of our Real-Time Live Broadcast Courses, plus 12 hours of any combination of our Recorded Live Credit or Self-Directed Courses.
Alabama requires 24 hours of continuing education completed within the last 2 years.
From the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy Administrative Code, Standards for Continuing Education:
798-X-8-.01 (5) Hours required. (a) Each respiratory therapist licensed by the Board shall complete twenty-four (24) contact hours of continuing education over the two-year licensure period. Initial licensure periods which have been prorated to have the renewal date fall on the established renewal date will be prorated for 1 contact hour for each month of the initial licensure periods. Any course accepted for credit shall be at least 25 minutes in length.
798-X-8-.02 (1) Any educational program approved for CRCE (Continuing Respiratory Care Education) units by the AARC shall be acceptable with one contact hour assigned for each CRCE unit awarded.
798-X-8-.02 (4) (c) By completing a self study course, such as a course offered on the internet, which has been approved by the AARC or the Board for a specific number of continuing education hours. No more than 12 contact hours of continuing education units of self study may be applied for renewal of license.
o Traditional Courses consist of and include live in-person and/or web-based interactive seminars, workshops, regional, state education meetings, etc., approved for AARC CRCE credit. Our Continuing Education > Real-Time Live Broadcast courses qualify as traditional courses.
o Recorded web-based seminars, programs, educational offerings can only be counted as self-study (non-traditional) Continuing Education. Our courses on the Continuing Education > Recorded Live Credit Course Schedule page and our Self-Directed (available 24/7) courses qualify as self-study courses. Your certificate for a Recorded Live Credit course reads Live because the course was approved by the AARC as a live course. However, when reporting your courses to CE Broker, Recorded Live Credit courses are listed as Anytime instead of Live courses because that is how Alabama views these courses.
Can I get all of my continuing education online?
You can obtain all of your continuing education online though our website. See our Discounts page for special offers, including Unlimited CE.
Do you report to CE Broker?
Yes, we report all courses taken by Alabama RCPs to CE Broker. Please make sure you correctly list your Alabama state license when registering to use our website. If your license is expired we will not be able to report your courses. You will need to tell us when your expired license is restored to active status by using the Contact Us form on our website. You may also use this form to list multiple state licenses you possess so that we may report your courses taken to other state boards that utilize CE Broker.
Are your courses approved by both the AARC and the ASBRT?
Our courses are approved for CRCE by the AARC and accepted by the ASBRT. To see our AARC approvals click here.
